Ontario accounts for approximately 40 per cent of Canada’s GDP. In 2011, Ontario’s GDP was approximately C$638 billion. With 13.4 million or approximately 40 per cent of the Canadian population, Ontario is Canada’s most populous province. Ontario is centrally located for both the Canadian and United States markets.
Compared to its major trading partners, Ontario has a relatively high concentration of employment and business activity in:
- Entertainment and creative industries
- Information and communication technology
- Financial and professional services.
Ontario has a strong skills base with the highest rate of post-secondary and training credentials in the OECD (at 63.0 per cent in 2009).
